Frank Van Gelder, Kathy Schwab and Moira Perrin (names in bold) collaborated on an article on Conditional Organ Donation that was published in the June 15, 2008 issue of “Transplantation.”

ITNS members: Muammer Cetingok, Rebecca P. Winsett, Cynthia L Russell, and Donna K Hathaway. Their article, “Relationships between sex, race and social class and social support networks in kidney, liver and pancreas transplant recipients” was published in the June 2008 Progress in Transplantation.

Mirjam Tielen, NP Erasmus MC, The Netherlands, recently had an article published in Transplantation. Title of the article, ” Q-methodology to identify young adult renal transplant recipients at risk for non-adherence, Transplantation, 15;85(5): 700-706.

Past ITNS President Frank Van Gelder, RN, BSN, ECTC, Senior Transplant Coordinator, Department of Abdominal Transplant Surgery, University Hospital Gasthuisberg, Leuven, Belgium presented results of an ITNS Board of Directors Research project.

Titled “ITNS Nurse Job Satisfaction Survey”, the study was coauthored by Cindy Russell, RN PhD, Associate Professor, University of Missouri, Sinclair School of Nursing, and current ITNS Research Director, has been published in a recent issue of Progress in Transplantation.

Christiane Kugler, PhD, RN and ITNS member has received the Excellence in Research in Nursing and Social Sciences Award from the International Society of Heart and Lung Transplantation. This prestigious award can only be received once in a lifetime! Christiane has also been elected to serve as an International Director for ITNS 2007-2009. Congratulations Christiane!

Congratulations to ITNS Newsletter Director, Evelyn Jirasakhiran, RN, MS, who was recently presented the "2007 Nurse Leader of the Year Award" from the Georgia Organization of Nurse Leaders. Evelyn is the Department Director for Transplant Services at Emory Univerity Hospital in Atlanta, Georgia.

Terri Boyd received her Master’s Degree in Science of Nursing from University of Phoenix on February 24, 2007. She is now Terri Boyd RN,MSN,CM.

Pamela Burley RN CCTN was recently promoted to Nursing Director of the Transplant Unit at Methodist Specialty and transplant Hospital in San Antonio, Texas.

Sandra Martin and her research team have received the ITNS/Astellas 2006 research grant for the research: “Health related quality of life and its determinants in heart transplant recipients: 1, 5, 10, and 15 years post transplant”.

Cindy Hoekstra is the founding member of the INTS Alberta Chapter. She started the ball rolling. As a member of the board for the past 2 years, she has contributed both locally and internationally and has put us “on the map” in the ITNS world. She keeps us connected to the larger Transplant nursing community and encourages the rest of us to do more and be better than we are now. She has been published, an article on West Nile Virus in transplant recipients and received a REACH award at the University of Alberta Hospital in recognition of her leadership abilities. Heidy David-Robinson received the Genzyme Transplant Coordinator Award of Distinction at the annual NATCO meeting in Chicago in September 2006. One of two recipients.

Kelly Norman published an article in Transplant International. Title: “Sudden Acute Hearing Loss in a Liver Transplant”

Heidy David-Robinson presented a poster at the 2005 ATS: “Body Mass Index on Patients with Chronic Lung Disease before and after Lung Transplant”

Debra Boswell presented a poster at the 2006 ACCP: “Effect of Obesity on the outcomes of Lung Transplant Recipients”

Nancy Colbong-Smith Rn, BSN Transplant Unit Manager at University of Washington in Seattle was awarded a $500 educational grant which she utilized to take 4 staff memebers to ATC in Seattle. In May 2005.

Maria Gallardo RN, Staff Nurse on the Transplant Unit at Virginia Mason Medical Center in Seattle was awarded a $250 educational grant which she utilized for the ITNS CCTN exam in November 2005.

Dana Nelson-Peterson, RN, BSN of Virginia Mason Medical Center was promoted to an Associate Nursing Director. She is now in charge of hospital operations.

Wanda Ryan RN, CCTC of Virginia Mason Medical Center co -chaired the ATC nursing workshop in May 2005 in Seattle. She also presented a case study on “A Kidney Transplant with a Positive Crossmatch”. Wanda also presented a lecture on “Kidney Donor Evaluation” at the ITNS Annual Symposium in Orlando, FL in October 2005.
