ITNS held its second electronic election in 2008. The process went very smoothly with a larger than usual number of members voting and with election results known within minutes of the ballot deadline. Reduced Fees for Emerging Economic Countries

ITNS is pleased to announced a reduced membership fee to allow transplant professionals from counties with emerging economies the opportunity to join the society at a reduced rate of  $25.  For ITNS to support this members will have access to all benefits in electronic format only, thus it is required that we have an e-mail address for this membership category

This list of countries are defined as low income and or an IDA lending status by the World Bank as of July 2006, or as a European Emerging Country by Europe.

2007 Draft Review Comments

The Scope and Standards of Transplant Nursing have been developed. A task force with representatives from ITNS, representing a variety of practice areas, developed the document in collaboration with representatives from The American Nurses Association.

We are now requesting feedback from the profession. Please register your contact information below. If we have questions about your feedback, we need to be able to contact you for clarification. A Comment Form is available below for your use in submitting your comments to us.

Do you know an ITNS member who is an outstanding leader, enthusiastic, able to think outside the box, a real team player with new exciting ideas, and committed to improving the practice of transplant nursing? Do you fit this picture? Consider running for the ITNS Board of Directors. I assure you that you will find being on the ITNS BOD one of the most challenging and rewarding experiences of your career.

Board openings for the 2007 election include:

  • President-elect: A three year commitment, prior experience on the ITNS board is required.
  • Director-Marketing: A two year commitment, no prior board experience is required. Any Active member in good standing is eligible to run.
  • Director-Chapter Development/Membership: A two year commitment, no prior board experience is required. Any Active member in good standing is eligible to run.
  • International Director: A two year commitment, no prior board experience is required. Any Active member in good standing who resides outside of North America is eligible to run. This position specifically represents the interests of ITNS members in the UK, Europe, Asia, South America, Australia, New Zealand.
  • Director-Research: A two year commitment, no prior board experience is required. The candidate must be a nurse with a doctorate and research experience. Any active member with these qualifications is eligible to run.

The candidate criteria are based on the current role descriptions in the ITNS Bylaws (Articles IV & V).

Our Members

Our membership has a very diverse geographical background, with 77% of members living in the USA, 12% in Canada and 10% living in Europe. 36% percent of our members classify themselves as transplant coordinators, 26% as staff nurses, 13% as clinical nurse specialists, 5% as charge nurses or team leaders and less than 5% are employed by a pharmaceutical company or have an interest in organ procurement. Abdominal transplantation including liver, kidney, pancreas and small bowel have the highest representation with over 65%. Thoracic transplantation including heart and lungs represent the remaining 35%. We try to offer a continuum of care from pre-transplant through post-transplant with our meetings, and have had great success in offering education modules to those who work in adult as well as pediatric transplantation.
